Happy Pride Month! Read more about what the TPU is doing in June and beyond.
Recent News:
As you may notice, we have changed our name from the Trans Patient Union at McGill to the Montreal Trans Patient Union. (You can still call us the TPU!) This decision was made to reflect our growing membership and our efforts in advocacy and community in the larger Montreal region.
We recently had our semester meeting with the doctor who prescribes HRT at the McGill Wellness Hub. She asked us to tell patients about the Hub's feedback form: according to her, this feedback is quickly distributed, and she personally handles many issues directly with other providers. Patients we communicate with are often skeptical of clinic feedback forms. If you are considering filling this out but want to do it anonymously while still receiving a response, consider sharing with us that you are completing it and entering our email in the form. This way we can follow up on these issues on your behalf if necessary.
We are now also meeting with the HRT provider at Concordia University to begin advocacy work there.
We have a new committee working on advocacy with GRS (Montreal's centre for gender-affirming surgery), seeking higher standards of care and improving experiences for trans patients. See below for more info.
Community Events & News:
On May 25, some of our members attended the counterprotest to defend trans youth. Scroll down to see photos from the event.
Montreal Community Healing Days will be hosting a Trans Care Clinic starting in June. These workshops provide hollistic care for before and after gender-affirming surgeries, in an inclusive and safe environment.
A researcher at UVIC is studying the experience of weight stigma, and is especially interested in intersections with other marginalized identities, including queer & trans people. They hope to make policy recommendations based on the results of their study, and to advocate for better healthcare for fat people. If you are interested, fill out their survey here.
Follow the encampment for Palestine at McGill -- you can look to PYM Montreal and SPHR McGill for more information. Check out this post for more details about how you can help. CKUT Radio is also providing consistent coverage and updates.
